The Pickers and the Singers (Should Be Friends)

from Mother & Child Reunion by Deane Arnold & Susie Deane

/

about

This Elliot Finch song is actually a joke. Most Elliot Finch songs are jokes. Okay, ALL Elliot Finch songs are jokes. This is an homage to all the folk music festivals Mom and her friend Sarah have attended, like forever. The musicians all tend to flock into two separate groups, and there's a friendly competition between the two groups. The Pickers tend to fire up a jam with whoever has an instrument, and they keep playing until someone needs a bathroom break. Anywhere. The Singers are sophisticated harmony vocalists who like to be able to hear dynamics. Both groups think the other group are snobs.

Note that the Pickers section of this song repeats a couple of times more than the listener would prefer. Note also the hints of barnyard in the Pickers melody.
